I’m a stunning tremendous fan of action animation. A while ago (probably 9 or 10 years), I saw an OVA entitled “Shadow Skill”, which I understanding was a very impressive looking anime. I hadn’t seen anything about it since then, until I saw news of a TV version of the exhibit coming to the US. Unfortunately, I did now aquire it until recently. So, here is what I view of it.

STORY—[B]
The Shadow Skill anime takes status in a land called Karuda. It follows the sage of Elle Ragu, the 59th Sevaal (also known as “Shadow Skill”), her adopted runt brother, Gau Ban (who is actually training to become a Sevaal), Faurink Maya, a talisman sorceress, and Kyuo Lyu, a beast-catcher. Together, they steal on an assortment of unusual jobs, whenever there isn’t prize money to be won at a tournament. Whether it’s transporting supplies, serving as a barmaid, or hunting demon beasts. Along the design though, they face an range of adversaries (most, if not all from the same nation) who hold the Sevaals, and even the city of Karuda are a threat to them.
The account, when I try to compare it what petite I remember from the OVA, seems to select a somewhat light tone then what is seen originally in that version. From Elle’s drinking habits, Gau’s inability to study that he is admired by Kyou effect for some comical scenes early on. Section of the intention threw, however, we begin to peer a more serious and somewhat darker legend unforld, which makes for some very dramatic and impressive fight scenes (especially the last one) .
Deep down, I want to say that the lawful chronicle focuses of Gau and how must eventually must grow up and become the astronomical fighter that he was born to be.
I roar the only thing I do not like about the chronicle is that most of the villians, and even some supporting characters, don’t score grand backstory. The villians don’t like the country of Karuda and want to destry it. Thats it. No steady explanation on where they launch from, how they came to despise the city so great or how they learned their styles of fighting. I honest reflect that info gives more to their character.
VISUALS/ART–[B]
In terms of its peruse, at least in the episodes where it really counts, Shadow Skill delivers some impressive scenes of action. The emotion in the characters’ faces and the detail seen in their body movements really adds to these scenes.
In those scenes where action and fighting is not taking state, the animation isn’t something to talk highly of. But of course these scenes where that noteworthy detail is not really needed.
The one thing you have to remember about this anime was made in 1998, and while that may have only been a decade ago, don’t go expecting quality animation like that seen in Gundam SEED or anything new. If you want a comparision in animation, scrutinize at Yu Yu Hakusho (its somewhat similar) .
CHARACTERS–[A-]
The characters of this demonstrate are also ones that will be remembered. A few characters I’ll focus on include Elle. Its her devil-may-care attitude early on that is fun to recognize (along with her ever display short-temper) . But it is her sense of protecting those she cares for and her warrior spirit that makes her truley loved character.
Gau is another who stands out. While he is portayed as something of a weakling in the beginning, his transformation(though a plain one) into a noteworthy warrior makes one reailize why the memoir kind of focuses on him.
The last character I’ll mention is Kyou. From shocked girl to valorous hunter, she shows how that believing in oneself and the drive to protect others can bring out the best in someone.
OVERALL–[B+]
If you are looking for an action packed anime and don’t mind older style animation (which you should not) then Shadow Skill is moral up your ally. With dramatic fights, comedy and a tall order cast, it is the ultimate addition to any action animation fan’s collection
I bought this while it was on sale thinking after watching two episodes that
it would be unbiased as first-rate as Bleach or Inu yasha boy was I wrong. The anecdote follows mostly on two characters Elle Lagu who is the 59th Sevalle a holy warrior for the empire of Ashlianna and her adopted younger brother Gau Ban and their adventures while on the road. The series said it was a hilarious action adventure series but after watching the state it wasn’t very hilarious and the action wasn’t all that enormous. The relate actors both for the English and Japanese audio were very generous but sadly couldn’t get this series worth great in the plan of entertainment. The extras are commentaries from the English impart actors and unbiased some trailers for other ADV films anime and the video format for the series is plump camouflage with impartial 2.0 for either English or Japanese audio. So if you are looking for a comic or action packed series worth your time sadly this isn’t it…

I was first introduced to this film by my friend seven years ago, and I have ever since fallen in appreciate with Japanese anime. Seven years later, having enjoyed such noble films as Grave of Fireflies, Bright Away, Akira and Macross Plus etc., this film, Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen(as it is known in Japanese), serene holds a special space in my heart and will never be replaced by anything.

What makes this film a classic is the degree of perfection the makers were aiming at from every angle. Question it from a superficial perspective, the drawing for instance, is lush, sensual and very realistic. When falling leaves fall in water you can recognize the ripples; when blood drops on snow it really sinks into it. Everything is shaped and executed with utmost poetry and beauty, and this is right even for the bloody scenes in the movie. In a fighting scene in which Kenshin kills the girl’s fiance, the camerawork strikes me as breathtaking and highly effective, it really gives the action urge and momentum and makes it sparkle with fire.
More importantly, the sage and characters are what originate this film memorable. I have to congratulate the makers of this film because they had an kindly script to inaugurate with, into which they weaved elements of tragedy and oriental fatalism, making it into an memoir and legendary account of cherish and sacrifice. First off, the epic starts with a gory scene of massacre, the sky has a color of blood, and the music is black and spine-tingling, setting up a tragic tone for the entire film. In this setting we meet the slight boy Shinta(later to become Kenshin) for the first time, he is the only presence in that scene that resembles innocence in this world, but soon later his innocence will be forever lost as he witnesses the killing of the three sisters.(This scene is carried out with ruthless realism and precision, for some people it can be unbearable.) Kenshin’s life is tragic and ill-fated fair from the beginning. As we maintain on watching, we grow attached to the characters, we feel for them, for their sacrifice and suffering, and the rare moments of joy and peace they have.

The contradiction in Kenshin’s life is that, he believes that through killing he can aid bring a fresh world to the people, but each time he kills he feels mammoth guilt and unrest. To acquire solace and clarify for his actions, he keeps reminding himself that he is serving for a cause that will eventually bring salvation to the people from war, famine, and unfavorable government. But slowly he begins to realize the fact that the people he’s trying to eliminate are objective oridinary human beings; by killing them he is actually destroying families and making others suffer, and that in turn makes himself suffer in guilt. All this makes him nothing more than a killing machine, a tool! The more deeply he realizes about this truth, the more tormented he feels inside his heart. So at this point, a original character is introduced, the girl named Tomoe who is a beautiful figure shrouded by an aura of mystery and feminine beauty, a person who is mosey to change Kenshin’s life forever….
I loved the map history and fiction are intertweaved in this film to earn a account that is simultaneously legendary and credible. It has been remarked that the character of Kenshin is loosely based on a loyal person, and the political figures featured in the anime have all existed in history. After thoroughly enjoying this film, I actually expend some time looking into the history of 19th century Japan, specially on circumstances surrounding the Meiji Restoration and various key figures in that revolution. And this research has led me to greater appreciation of the film. More often than not, you don’t net such succesful combinations of history and fiction in films alot; another helpful example that immediately comes to mind is the award-winning film of 1984, Amadeus, which retells the life of Mozart in a comic and sensational plan.
Finally, I’d also like to comment on the music in this film. The music is wonderful from beginning to raze! Not only in the sense that it effectively supports and amplifies the drama, but the music alone forms an emotional meander. It is soulful and introspective, at times shaded but weepingly lovely. If you listen to the soundtracks in elephantine cycle, scenes in the film arrive aid to your mind in intellectual details. I remember when I watched this film for the first time, I was left spellbound and speechless as the ending theme sounds its first notes. In the extinguish the music takes you all the procedure succor to where the narrative started, at which point you hear runt Shinta talking to his master, and you are overwhelmed by a flood of emotions as this unpleasant but hauntingly delicate account is brought to conclusion in a cyclic perform.
In my notion everything about this film is masterful and recommendable. This is a very serious work of art that has raised the artistic quality of anime films in general to an admirable degree. Heart-felt gratitude to all alive to in the making of this film!
All fans of “Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X” will surely care for this complete box OVA/OAV place. It is very suspenseful and holds your attention till the ending of this tragic-yet-happy fable.
When buying this box region, you are getting your money’s worth. Usually, this box position runs anywhere from 90-100 USD in some stores, but on Amazon, it practically cuts it in half.
This product does not appear to be a bootleg and is very lawful on the subtitles.
There is also another OVA/OAV box place that has a shadowy box and is a dinky more expensive. Personally, I favor this one. In the other box region, you do not fetch the following:
Reflection: Director’s Cut
Trust & Betrayal: Director’s Cut
(Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X) The Motion Picture*
Reflection
Trust & Betrayal
*The Motion Portray is sometimes listed as Japanese only when searching for the “Language” on some sites, such as this, but with this DVD box position, it DOES near in English and also in Japanese, with English subtitles.
(All DVDs = English/Japanese with English subtitles)
That is what you salvage in this box spot, besides the incredible box art and the fair DVD cloak art.
[Risk]
The risk of purchasing this box site, or any box residence for that matter, is afflict to the box itself, not necessarily the DVDs, but hey, sometimes it happens.
Note: On the side of the box, you may perceive a microscopic logo that says: Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X. They are both the same.
Little kids should not be watching this. The suggested rating in my eyes would be at least an audience that is aged enough to handle the dialog and the exiguous suggestive themes that are featured. Roughly: 16+
Also: The title is a minute misleading, considering it only says ‘Samurai X – Complete’, but this is NOT the Anime, it is the OVA/OAV collection.

Biography tells the origin of the variations of the sage of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. Well-behaved for those who know diminutive about him but, as a fan of the legends, i learned nothing current from the video. But it was only 50 minutes of my life and it was worth being told again.
Overall, this is a substantial DVD. It gets a cramped “documentary-esque” at times, but it’s bulky of racy archaeological information and research. Some of the archaeologists’ accents might be a dinky difficult for students to understand, assuming it’s ancient in a classroom setting like I chose to do. My students seem to really luxuriate in it, especially when we compare King Arthur to modern-day “superheroes” so they can gaze how there are definite literary and historical consistencies that we fraction with a foreign people who existed over a thousand years ago.

It was time to honest derive the DVD to have on hand. Now our 5-year-old wants to witness it anytime of year, but both she and our 8-year-old will savor it every Christmas, certainly more than once. It’s a share of our Christmas movie collection.

So it averages out to 4 stars then.
The music is unbiased grand with many key blues performances from Muddy Waters, Cramped Walter, Etta James, Howlin’Wolf and Willie Dixon recreated. The sage is a blend of fiction and fact and one wonders why the half truths and lies had to score their diagram into the anecdote. Objective a few of the “mistruths”:

-There were 2 Chess Brothers, not fair one and both had a strong involvement in the company.
- Len Chess died 2 months after he sold his company not objective after stepping foot outside the door.
-Etta James did not narrate “I’d Rather Go Blind” in Chicago although she did picture her composition for the Chess imprint.
-Etta had already been a star for 5 years prior to joining Chess.

-Len Chess did actually wait on as a session musician if the residence demanded it.
-The Chess company recorded many other musicians and styles during their career.
-Whether Chess ever dated Etta James is debatable. She had a boyfriend who was writing some of her best material at the time.
- Chess operated in a few smaller buildings before engrossing to 2120 South Michigam Ave in 1955.
A thorough fable on what is right and what is not would no doubt utter countless other mistruths. The seek information from is why does Hollywood have to falsify and dress up the facts when a simple portray on the facts would have been so remarkable better. Peaceful, the music in this movie is a blues fan’s dream and credit must be given for that.
An outstanding modern book, Ted Gioia’s “Delta Blues” (2008) tells the tale of “The Life and Times of the Mississippi Masters who Revolutionized American Music.” Considerable of Gioia’s book is devoted to the blues singers who left the Delta in the unhurried 1940s and relocated to other American cities, including Chicago. With Gioia’s book novel in my mind, I was enthusiastic to glance “Cadillac Records”, a novel movie which tells of transplanted blues, early rock and roll, and Chicago — and of the association of many astronomical blues artists with Chess Records and Leonard Chess. The movie offers compelling portraits of Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf, of the Mississippi Delta, together with Shrimp Walter, Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, guitarist Hubert Sumlin, and Etta James together with its portrait of Leonard Chess. The movie is directed by Darnell Martin.
Gioia writes: “Like Muddy Waters, the Chess brothers were outsiders trying to place themselves in Chicago.” (“Delta Blues, p. 216) . Leonard and Philip Chess (born Lijzor and Fiszel Czyz) arrived in the United States in 1928. Leonard progressed from working in his father’s junk shop, to opening a liquor store and nightclub, the Macomba Lounge on Chicago’s South Side, to establishing the Chess portray tag to characterize dismal artists in the areas of blues, gospel, doo-wop, and rock. Philip Chess does not appear in the movie. But Leonard receives a tough and moral portrait from Adrien Brody in “Cadillac Records” as a fresh American clear to form a success of himself.
Muddy Waters was born McKinley Morganfield as a sharecropper in the Mississippi Delta. In 1943, Alan Lomax visited Waters, as he was already known, and made a distinguished series of blues recordings with Waters singing and playing acoustic bottleneck guitar. The movie opens with an pleasurable scene between Lomax and Waters in Mississippi (filmed in Louisiana) . Shortly thereafter, Waters moved to Chicago and changed Delta Blues and music when he electrified his instrument. Waters would compose several efforts to adapt during the course of a long career. Remarkable of “Cadillac Records” is told in his scream and through his eyes, portrayed by Jeffery Wright.
Howling Wolf, born Chester Burnet, also was a musician from the Mississippi Delta. A physically vast and formidable man who resembled a linebacker more than a musician, Wolf was already middle-aged when he came to Chicago. He was archaic enough to have known early Delta blues singers Charlie Patton and Son House. Wolf, portrayed by Eamonn Walker in “Cadillac Records”, arrived in Chicago from Memphis, with a surly involving temper and more of a head for business than some other rural singers. Wolf and Waters, and the sometimes jealous relationship that developed between them, is well portrayed in this movie.
The movie also offers top-notch portrayals of Slight Walter, (played by Columbus Short) with his drinking and fighting and unmatchable artistry on the harmonica. His fill tendencies to attract and to give violence are graphically portrayed. Chuck Barry (Mos Def) is portrayed as the founder of rock and roll, a style that would for a time displace Chess’s bluesmen. We observe him “crossing over” to white audiences in this movie, in the face of a heavily segregated Chicago, and serving jail time for contributing to the delinquency of minors at the height of his career. The movie shows other white rock groups plagiarizing from Berry. Songwriter and bassist Willie Dixon (Cedrick the Entertainer), like Wolf a big man, wrote and helped build noteworthy of Wolf’s and Water’s material. The vulnerable, unnerved, foul-mouthed and greatly talented Etta James was added to Chess’s artists when the note view it needed a woman performer. James is portrayed by Beyonce. She makes a glorious presence in this movie with her passionate performance of James’s classic “At Last”. (The violinists in the studio raise their heads from their instruments in disbelief as James/Beyonce wails in recording “At Last”, creating an unforgettable image of what needs to be said about this song.)
The movie suggests that James and Leonard Chess became romantically enthusiastic. This is likely inaccurate. Many of the details of the epic are also probably historically incorrect. But the film is a memoir rather than a documentary and should be judged for its bear effectiveness and for the contrivance it portrays its characters and its times. And here I notion it succeeded admirably. The movie captures the blues as it moved from the Delta to Chicago. These musicians have only recently received some of the recognition that their artistry deserves. Leonard Chess, with his mixture of paternalism, insight, ambition, and probable exploitation of his talented musicians, is aptly portrayed. The difficult transition from their rural roots that Waters, Minute Walter, and the other musicians experienced in Chicago, and their struggles with alcohol, violence, promiscuity and racism, are properly emphasized in the movie. And the soundtrack brings “Cadillac Records” to life. The songs are not performed by the new artists, but the performances especially Beyonce’s as Etta James, are intriguing.
“Cadillac Records” is a gritty portrayal of blues, rock, Leonard Chess, and the represent company he founded. The movie tells of a unusual American art create, developed by outsiders and immigrants, which continues to beget sizable contributions to American culture.
Running time: 107 minutes
